Happy Thursday!
Matthew 6:8 (NIV)- Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
Do you have a favorite restaurant or coffee shop you visit often? When you walk in these locations they know your name and what you will order. Sometimes they even see you coming down the block and by the time you enter the door, your order is ready. Your request is known and it brings you joy to feel special.
I thought about prayer. We pray and ask God for things he already knows about. He already knew what we would ask for because he knows our every need. Your request can be simple. No need for fancy prayers or like is described in Matthew 6:7, when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Pray and speak to God from your heart because he already knows your request, he already knows what you will order.
Matthew 6 also says when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. I remind you that your story was written before you were born. Today’s verse is a reminder that God knows what you need before you ask him. Ask, then spend a bit more time listening for the answer. It may not be the answer you want to hear, but his answer is best. He already knows what you will order and knows what you need. He created the plan for your life.
Dear God,
Thank you for the reminder that you already know everything that I will pray for. That I should ask and spend more time listening for your answer. That you already know what I need. I pray that all your children trust that you know what they will ask for and what they need before they ask. That they spend time listening for your answer and understand that you know best. I ask this in your son Jesus’ name. Amen!
