Psalm 49:20 (NIV) - "People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beast that perish."
I once read an article and it is said, "life is about righteousness, not riches." In this day and age, many people focus on getting rich. Everyone wants to be rich and famous. In pursuing this dream some focus simply on getting rich. Many never pause to think that nothing they possess right now goes to eternity with them.
I recently met an actress who shared her story of having wealth for some time. Somewhere along the way, she lost her gigs, became depressed and lost all her wealth. She admits that she lacked wisdom and the foundation to manage her wealth. I am sure you have heard many stories of recording artist, actors, and millionaires who went from rags to riches back to rags.
Is it that they lack wisdom and the tools to manage their wealth or simply they lost sight of the bigger picture? Today's verse warns that people who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beasts that perish. Understanding the facts of life, God's word and his truth, seeking righteousness, seeking wisdom and understanding provides the greatest wealth for our internal life. Today I encourage you to read Psalm 49 and seek wisdom as you aim for wealth and fame.
Dear God,
Thank you for your guidance on what is needed for my life in your kingdom. I pray that all your children have wealth with understanding. That they remember "It's not the riches, it's the riches without the foundation and understanding that comes from earning those riches" that truly matters. I ask this in your son Jesus’ name. Amen!
