Colossians 4:17(NLT)- And say to Archippus, "Be sure to carry out the ministry the Lord gave you."
Do you recall being given an assignment or chore as a child and not be allowed outdoors to play with your friends until the chore was completed? I think this was a great lesson learned in preparation for adult life. Finish the work you are assigned to receive your reward.
Each of us have our very own assignment to complete here on earth. Some take longer to complete than others. An assignment may even require repetition until the lesson is learned. However, we must complete the task given to us. You may get tired, weary, and want to quit or change course. That is our human nature.
It is easier to quit or change course however, doing that will leave you with unfinished business. If the lesson learned as a child is true, unfinished business yields no rewards. The parable of the talents (see Matthew 25:14-30) serve as a reminder that when asked what did you do with the talents given to you, what will be your answer? Today’s verse is a reminder to be sure to carry out the ministry the Lord gave you. I encourage you today to focus on “your purpose not your problems.”
Dear Father,
Thank you for the reminder to carry out the ministry you gave me. That although quitting may be easier, that is not what you called me to do. I pray that all your children heed the advice to carry out the ministry you gave to each of us. That we don’t get weary or change course while working on the assignment. I ask this in your son Jesus’ name. Amen!
