The word obey seems to at one point turned from a good thing to a bad thing. Some feel if they obey, they are giving in to something against their will. Some feel obeying is a sign of weakness. Think about the peer pressure children undergo daily. They are teased because they are obedient to their teacher, parent or someone of authority. They were taught to be obedient.
I am the first to admit that obedience is not easy and it is complicated by all the noise in our life. It makes it hard to hear from God. However, when you see the rewards of your obedience time and time again, obedience becomes easier. (See also Exodus 3:11... Moses’ experience.) God loves us and he would never ask us to do something that would not benefit us at the end or that will not benefit the Kingdom. Think about it, he said he works all things out for those who love him. Today’s verse is a reminder that if you love the Lord, you will obey what he commands. No matter how impossible it may seem or whether it made sense or not. If you love him, you obey, you trust and you act on his command.
