James 4:7 (NIV) - Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Many of us have fears... we fear snakes, spiders, the dark, other people, heights, fear of confrontation just to name a few. Have you ever thought why or how this fear developed? Have you tried to overcome this fear? Is your fear warranted or not? Has fear stolen your joy?
Some fear is reasonable and warranted. It is a gift from God. I read an article about overcoming fear by Bill Bouknight and it stated this, “The most common fears relate to matters we cannot control. Abnormal or excessive fear is a monster which can paralyze and destroy. Panic is fear out of control.” The article continued to state “Excessive fear is caused when our source of security is not strong enough to sustain us.” I said Wow.
Think about this, who or what do you fear. Who are what are you trusting to be the source of your security and strength? Can this source sustain you through all your fears? Reminder, the enemy is there to insight fear. Who will you believe? The Bible tells many stories where fear rather than trusting Jesus caused many to panic when it seems it was the end. Today’s verse reminds us to submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. I encourage you to have a fearless day.
Dear God,
Thank you for the reminder that with you sustaining me, I shall fear not. I pray that all your children submit to you and fear not. That they resist the devil and watch fear and evil flee from them. I ask this in Jesus name. Amen!
