Psalm 34:18 (NIV) – The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Merriam Webster defines hope as to cherish a desire with anticipation; to want something to happen or be true; to desire with expectation. It is said that "Man can live about 40 days without food, about three days without water, about eight minutes without air, but only for one second without hope." If this is the case, I wonder why lose hope? The time you lost the bid for your perfect home, when you were abandoned, when you lost a loved one, when you didn’t get the job you wanted, when those near and dear to you disappointed you, all these events may have caused you to lose hope.
George Weinberg was quoted as saying “hope never abandons you. You abandon it.” Things may seem dark at the moment, as though the sun may never shine again for you. Today’s verse is a reminder that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. No matter how tough things may get, I encourage you not to abandon hope. Hope anchors your soul. Consider how hope is anchoring you today and each day.
Dear God,
Thank you for the reminder that you are close to the brokenhearted and you save those who are crushed in spirit. I pray that all your children rest in the assurance that you are close to the brokenhearted and you save those who are crushed in spirit; that they anchor on your hope and promises. I ask this in your son Jesus’ name. Amen.
