Ezekiel 14:3 (NLT) - Son of man, these leaders have set up idols in their hearts. They have embraced things that will make them fall into sin. Why should I listen to their requests?
As a former workaholic, I never thought about how working all the time, even after hours could be a form of idolatry. I truly thought it was the right thing to do and to show my loyalty to my employer. I even recalled putting work in front of my prayer time and my family. I made the choice to have work consume most of the hours in my day that there was only time for the required hour of Sunday church service and the five to ten minutes daily for devotion.
For me, one of the idols in my heart was work. There are so many idols that we allow or crave in our hearts money, power, things, titles, people, pleasures to name a few. Some of these idols are birth and defined by worldly desires. We allow these idols to take over our hearts and become more important than our relationship with God. If we continue to embrace things that are not of God and continue to invite “idols” in our hearts, how can we make room to develop a strong relationship with God?
Today’s verse is a reminder of Ezekiel’s revelation when “leaders came insincerely seeking God’s counsel, their facade was revealed and they were indicted for determining to pursue their evil way and defy God’s will. They had set up idols in their hearts.” A reminder, you shall have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:3) What idols are you storing in your heart that is preventing you from developing a rich and intimate relationship with God? I encourage you to read Ezekiel 14 in its entirety.
Dear Father,
Thank you for the reminder that I have set-up idols in my heart. That I must repent and turn away from my idols. I pray that all your children recognize the idols they have stored in their heart, that they repent and turn away from all idols. That they place their relationship with you as their first priority. I ask this in your son Jesus’ name. Amen!

Here is a special invitation for you. If you have not declared Jesus Lord as your savior, here is your opportunity to do so. Romans 10:9-10 says; If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him for the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that process your faith and are saved.
If you declare this, please reply Amen. Welcome back to the family, welcome home!
