Has anyone ever said these words to you, “Grow up!” Growing up is not simple. There is a lot of pain that accompanies growth, hence the term “growing pains.” Growing is uncomfortable because physical and emotional pain accompanies our growth.
Would you rather remain in a pain free state with no worries, no bills, no major life decisions to make? I asked this question to a friend recently and the answer was yes. I asked why, the honest answer was “I am comfortable.” I thought, if we remain comfortable are we growing? In reflecting on my life, the only time growth occurred was during discomfort...in the uncomfortable zone...Moving to an unknown country, leaving friends behind and making new friends. This took faith and commitment to growing. Rick Warren says “we grow when we commit to grow.”
Today’s verse is a reminder that there is a time to give birth and a time to die; A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted. Are you committed to embracing your growing pains? Sometimes we get stuck holding onto the comfort, to the fun times in our life, to what is easy. There is a time for everything. We must continue to grow. Grow on!
“Learn it. Live it. Lead it.”
