Habakkuk 1:5 NIV- “Look at the nations and watch and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told." When we look at our world and our life, we are faced with disappointment, dissolution, and even desperation when things that are happening simply don't make sense. When we don't understand what is happening we worry, we get angry, and we give up.
Habakkuk witness so much and was desperate, he was simply puzzled. He didn't understand what God was doing by allowing him to look at injustice? Why God tolerated wrongdoing? Why he allowed destruction, violence, strife, and conflict to happen. Habakkuk accused God of simply not caring and of inaction. In Habakkuk 1:2 he cried out saying, How long, Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save?
In today's verse, God assured Habakkuk that he was going to do something in his days that he would not believe, even if he were told. To me, this is the assurance of things to hope for but not yet seen. God is still working and despite what things may look like, destruction, violence, strife, and conflict, he is working it all out for our good. Have you ever felt like Habakkuk? When you do, what actions do you take? Be encouraged, God is still working!
Dear God,
Thank you for the assurance that no matter what I may face today, that you are still working it all out for my good. I pray that all your children stand strong in this assurance that you are working hard in their favor, no matter what they face today. You are working it out for their good. I ask this in Jesus' name. Amen!
