Luke 8:7 (MSG) - “Other seed fell in the weeds; the weeds grew with it and strangled it.”
It seems that the theme of the month for many of us is eliminating distractions. Eliminating distractions requires discipline. There are so many things that show up in life as distractions such as social media, watching television, “handy-dandy cell phones”, unexpected events, “the problem of the day”, clutter in your physical space, clutter in your mental space (your thoughts) just to mention a few.
Sometimes the things that show up as distractions include making a living (yes, work can be at times a distraction if it consumes all the hours you are awake), living “your life” (partying and pursuing flesh desires instead of spiritual desires can keep you from your destiny), or being concerned about someone else’s life (yes minding someone else’s business and not your own can be a distraction.)
We are all guilty of falling prey to distractions. Distraction is the very thing that keeps us from finishing the race God set out for us. It keeps us from moving forward, it keeps us from hearing what God has to say to us, it keeps us from walking and living on purpose. Shutting down distractions is important to live a full life, a life that is purposeful and meets God’s goals for your life. Today’s verse serves as a reminder that distractions are like seeds that fall in the weeds. Don’t let distractions strangle or stifle your purpose. Extinguish it!
Dear God,
Thank you for the reminder that eliminating distractions is key to hearing from you and meeting the goals you set for my life. I pray that all your children focus on eliminating distractions that may be keeping them off the path you set out for them. That they eliminate distractions to hear from you. I ask this in your son Jesus’ name. Amen!
