Philippians 4:7- And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Have you ever said or heard someone said I need peace? Some think of peace as being in a quiet isolated place. What if I said you could be in the middle of a noisy and crowded fish market and still have peace. When the noise of life takes over your mind and heart, when you are filled with worry, anxiety, doubt and are not able to be at peace what do you do?
Do you ever ask God for his peace and to share his peace? The peace that transcends all understanding. If God is In me, then I already have the peace that he gives. I can also channel that peace to others. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 says now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
I recalled learning the prayer of St. Francis at a tender age. It was a hymn sang at church. In this prayer, I asked to be a channel of the Lord’s peace. Where there is hatred let me bring love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt bring faith. Where there is despair let me bring hope. Where there is darkness let me bring only light and where there is sadness let me bring joy. Decades later this prayer makes much more sense than ever.
Today’s verse is a reminder that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. I encourage you to read Philippians 4 and revisit the prayer of St. Francis. Become a channel of peace.
Dear God,
Thank you for the reminder that I am a vessel to channel your peace. That peace which transcends all understanding. I pray that all your children are reminded that your peace transcends all understanding and will guard their hearts and minds. That they can be channels of your peace. I ask this in your son Jesus’ name. Amen!
