1 Peter 5:8 (NIV)- Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
It feels so good when you get into your car to head to work, get on the highway and there is no traffic. Not one single traffic jam. Smooth sailing into the office. You arrive at work with a difference attitude. You may think, I will have a smooth ride home because all was well this morning. You don’t worry about what time you leave the office because you figure all will be the same heading home.
Life sometimes is like traffic. When all is well, we feel that there is no need to be concerned because all is or has been running smoothly. We get accustomed or comfortable with the current state of things, we relax and sometimes forget that we must always remain alert. When all is well, we must not ease up on our prayer life, we must remain vigilant and not become complacent.
Today’s verse is a reminder to be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Whether you are currently in a storm or you are having the time of your life, always remain alert and sober. Armor yourself with God’s word. Be especially cautious when all is well.
Dear God,
Thank you for the reminder to be alert and of sober mind. That the enemy prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. I pray that all your children remain alert, sober and anchored to your word. That they remember that their enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. That they be cautious especially when All is well. I ask this in your son Jesus’ name. Amen!
