1 John 4:9 (NIV) - This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
Love shows up in so many ways. We love certain things, people and places. I wonder how deep is that love? Are you willing to sacrifice all for the things, people and places you love deeply? There are four types of love, love as it relates to romance, love as it relates to your brother or to one another, love of your family and then there is Agape love. Agape Love is unconditional, selfless, and sacrificial love.
Can you imagine walking a life were love is your compass, your guide and the center of your being? That no matter what anyone does or says to you, you are still able to just love everyone just the way they are? That you automatically forgive every sin committed. I know many of you may be struggling with this thought....But God, he killed someone, but God she left me when I needed her the most, but God, they hurt me, but God it still hurts. Can you imagine if God said all of this about you and refuses to love or forgive you? We however know that God will never withhold his love from us.
Today’s verse is a reminder that this is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. Wow, simply said, Agape Love. Are you able to gain the strength and courage to follow God’s example and walk in this way of love (Ephesians 5:1-2)? I encourage you today to read 1 John 4 and meditate on that sacrificial love.
Dear God,
Thank you for the reminder that you sent your only son into the world so that we may live through him. To show me what unconditional, selfless, and sacrificial love looks like. I pray that all your children find it in their hearts to walk in this way of love. Agape love, unconditional, selfless and sacrificial love. I ask this in your son Jesus’ name. Amen!
