Colossians 1:17 (NIV) - He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Adhesive
Adhesive is sometimes defined as a substance that causes something to adhere, as glue or rubber cement. In physics, it relates to the molecular force that exists in the area of contact between unlike bodies and that acts to unite them. If you take a look around your current surroundings, you will see many items held together by different types of adhesives.
Have you ever thought about what holds you together? Is it your family, your career, your community, your faith/prayer life? How do you make it through life without falling apart? When you fall apart who puts you together again, what "adhesive" or anchor keeps you from totally falling apart? Or are you like the egg of the English nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty?
Today's verse reminds us that in Christ, all things hold together. He not only created the universe, but is the power behind the gravity that holds things together! (Read Colossians 1) This is why Christ is before all things, because in him all things hold together. He is the adhesive!
Dear God,
Thank you for the reminder that you are before All things. That in you, ALL THINGS hold together. I pray that all your children remember that you are before all things and that you are the adhesive that holds all things together. I ask this in your son Jesus' name. Amen!
